Malibu Seafood - A Sunday Treat

I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday than eating fried food and taking a hike. Malibu Seafood is the best solution for this, unfortunately I'm not the only one who thinks so. This place can have one mean line but let me tell you, it is worth it. We ordered the Three Piece Fish & Fries (we were advised in line two pieces was not enough), Chicken Strips and Fries, and two Lemonades! Everything looked amazing as it came out so I don't think you could go wrong! It was very clear all of the fish had been brought off an actual boat very recently!

Once we finished stuffing our faces, we took a beautiful hike from the trailhead in the parking lot where we worked off the calories.

Apple Pie

It's amazing how food triggers memories. Apple pie reminds me of so much... it reminds me of the hundreds of times I watched my grandmother (who I called "Mam") rolling out her famous pie crust from underneath her kitchen island. It reminds me of my mom teaching me how to make a pie on my very own! It reminds me of the one dessert my grandfather, whom I called "Grandpa D" loved! He hated all things sweet but he loved this pie.

It's perfect for any occasion and will impress everyone. If you want to become a pie pro, read on!

Casanova

There are some places that are more than just a restaurant, more than just the food. Places that feel like you're going to a family country home. I have had too many lunches here to count since before I was born so when I was asked where to go for my Birthday lunch my decision was easy, Casanova.

Deviled Eggs

For all of you out there that need something to bring this weekend, Deviled Eggs are the ticket! They are extremely easy and I have a feeling some of you might have some hard boiled eggs lying around. Every time I make these (even for non-Easter occasions) they are a hit!

Yummy [Birthday] Cake

A common misconception is cake from scratch is difficult to make. It's NOT! I promise! Yes you have to gather all of the ingredients but that's about all of the extra work. Once you try this you'll never bake another box cake again, except maybe for the occasional funfetti cake just because they're so fun.

[Slow Cooker] Corned Beef

A tradition in my family and one of my favorite meals of the year! Here is an easy, hassle free way to make an this Irish favorite. Instead of babysitting your corned beef all day let your slow cooker do the work.

Artichoke Pizza (aka EASY Dinner)

After living in LA for almost a year I have one major complaint: I can't find a good slice of pizza ANYWHERE and I miss it badly! So to calm my insatiable desire for a decent slice I have taken it upon myself to make my own pie. This is a quick, easy and delicious dinner no matter where you might be.

Creamy Tomato Soup (no cream needed)

Today I wanted to share the recipe for my favorite soup (at the moment). This one might be especially useful to all of my friends freezing on the east coast. I promise this will help warm you up!

I LOVE tomato soup and this recipe has a delicious twist that will fill you up. It's a thick, creamy, healthy soup that just dances on your tongue.

Quick, Easy... Broiled Salmon (with Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes and a Honey Mustard Sauce)

If you just need a quick, easy and DELICIOUS dinner to entertain friends or to spice up the week then this is the dish to make! Anyone who likes fish will thank you for it.

Blackberry Pie

What better way to get into the Valentine's spirit than by making something sweet. Chocolate treats are a Valentine's day staple but I like to think outside the box and bake a yummy pie. I'm lucky because no matter what I make it's sure to be a hit with my hubby. He has a sweet tooth but even I have to admit this is one delicious pie.

Fresh Orange, Apple and Jalapeno Mixed Greens Salad

I'm always trying to come up with fun new salads. To be perfectly honest, I've had a lot of success by grabbing a big bowl and just randomly combining whatever is in my fridge. If you have some leftover potatoes, couscous, quinoa or a lonely grilled chicken breast lying around... throw it in!

Salads are such a tasty and easy thing to make and the best thing about them is there really are no rules to making them. And don't forget: salads are the perfect starter to any meal but don't be afraid to increase the quantity and make them the main course!

Eggslut

It's fair to say that Eggslut is one my favorite things about LA. This is truly the breakfast sandwich at it's best! But, I'm not the only person who thinks this...

Eggslut is located in downtown LA at the Grand Central Market. They open at 8:00am and let me tell you, the line is halfway into the market by 8:05am on a Saturday or Sunday morning. It might be agonizing waiting while your hungry stomach begs you for food but it is worth the fuss. Also note: if you're lucky enough to get downtown on a weekday morning there is no line and no fuss!

Homemade Mushroom Ravioli with a White Wine Lemon Butter Sauce

There's nothing better than homemade pasta. The expensive "fresh" pasta at specialty grocery stores and the Farmers Market really doesn't stack up. This post is for those of you who have received/bought a pasta maker or pasta maker attachment for your mixer and have never touched it! You know who you are!

I'm not going to lie, making pasta is a labor of love but the moment it touches your lips you'll have no regrets (and you'll never go back). For me it's a relaxing and even meditative event. If you're planning on starting this process an hour or two before your guests arrive then this is not the dish to make for the first time! Practice makes perfect with pasta making and you'll get quicker each time you try it. So please, have patience and don't give up!

The Trails Cafe - Griffith Park

A Sunday treat! Yesterday we met some friends for a surprisingly delicious breakfast in Griffith Park. What a great way to start a Sunday [or any day].

The Trails Cafe is an adorable spot tucked away at the bottom of Griffith Park. It has a good number of gluten-free options and serves the amazing Stumptown Coffee. Arrive early if you don't like lines and parking is also a challenge so take the first spot you see.

White Bean and Tomato Soup

Beautiful Soup, so rich and green,
     Waiting in a hot tureen!
Who for such dainties would not stoop?
Soup of the evening, beautiful Soup!

It's mid January and that means it's SOUP TIME! No matter if it's 20 degrees or 80 degrees, January is always soup time to me. I love making a hearty soup on Sunday afternoon to turn that Monday frown upside-down. My husband and I can normally get 2+ nights out of a good pot of soup.

New Year, New Blog

This blog has been years in the making. I started with Ashley Clayton Photography as my 2011 New Years resolution which gave me a new perspective on life. I not only started a photography blog but a new business. I was now viewing the world through the lens of my camera. To my surprise by the end of the year I was a fully fledged photographer and still managed to keep my full time job in financial communications.
